Taking a decent picture of the moon can actually be a pretty challenging thing. One Youtube user, however, took out his new Nikon Coolpix P900 and decided to make it the subject for his test of the 83x optical zoom. The results are pretty amazing.
At its long end, the P900 has a full-frame equivalent field of view of a 2,000mm lens. That’s telescope territory. The image coming out of the camera obviously isn’t perfect as it has all sorts of things to deal with like atmosphere and camera shake (shooting at 2,000mm requires a very sturdy tripod), but the image is still very impressive for a $600 camera.
While that kind of insane focal range probably isn’t very practical for most shooters, it does enable some nifty accomplishments.
