William Eggleston Prints Expected to Fetch More Than $100,000 at Auction
In order to raise funds for the the Eggleston Artistic Trust, some 36 prints are being auctioned of at Christie's
Come March 12 of this year, you’ll be able to bid on prints by one of the most famed living photographers, William Eggleston. Christie’s is holding an auction of 36 of his photographs, which are expected to bring in more than $2.7 million for the Eggleston Artistic Trust. At the low end, a number of the prints are expected to fetch $30,000-$50,000, but the stand outs are expected to fetch in excess of $100,000. A number of Eggleston’s most iconic photographs are up for bid, including his famous tricycle. The works are all printed in limited runs of just two, and in a 60×44 inch format which Eggleston has not used previously.
While these prints definitely won’t reach the heights of some others we’ve seen, dropping $200,000 on an artwork is hardly pocket change. It is, however, a chance to get an oversized print by an incredibly renowned modern photographer.
