Astronaut Captures Photo of Meteor From Above
The International Space Station offers a unique view of the Perseid Meteor Shower
Did you go out and capture any images of the Perseid Meteor Shower this weekend? Well, even if you didn’t, you can still enjoy this excellent image of one of the space rocks burning up in the atmosphere. But, unlike all of the meteor shower images that are showing up on Flickr and Twitter right now, this one was taken from space.
Astronaut Ron Garan Tweeted this photo of the “shooting star” from the International Space Station, presumably using one of the Nikon DSLRs they have on-board. It’s an undeniably unique perspective and one that we would never have gotten to see if it weren’t for this wonderful train wreck we call the internet.
It’s not quite cool enough, however, to oust the astronaut self-portrait as my computer desktop background.
