The ambitious little P100 encapsulates a couple of firsts for Nikon. Inside is the first iteration of their 10.3-megapixel backside illumination CMOS sensor, which is capable of shooting 10 fps at full resolution and enables an in-camera HDR function. It’s also the first compact from Nikon to offer full HD 1080p video capture with an integrated stereo microphone. Other features include a 26x (26-678mm) zoom lens with 5-way Vibration Reduction and the ability to shoot 120 fps if you’re willing to settle for 1.1-megapixel images. The LCD is a 3-inch Vari-Angle with 460,000 dots that can tilt up to 90 degress up and 82 degrees down.
The P100 will be available in March for $399 and has the potential to be one of the most versatile compacts around, especially if the backside illumination sensor is as good in low-light conditions as Nikon claims. Full specs and more images after the jump. -Stan Horaczek
