On paper, the GoPro Karma drone is actually pretty awesome piece of tech, offering full UAV capabilities in addition to a removable, hand-held gimbal that can be used to stabilize footage when shooting on solid ground. Last night however, in the midst of the election madness, the company announced that 2,500 Karma drone units are being recalled because a small number have reported losing power mid-flight.

In the video above, you can clearly see the Karma losing power unexpectedly and literally falling out of the sky. That’s very bad news for an aircraft that’s regularly flown over other people.

According to GoPro, no property damage or personal injury has been reported from the issue, which is certainly good news.

If you bought a Karma drone, you can return it for a full refund. You can find all the details at this link.

Hopefully, GoPro can get the problem figured out quickly because the drone seems like an important part of the company’s path forward. It will be interesting to see what happens in the long run and the overall effect it will have on GoPro’s future.
