When we put Canon’s new fisheye zoom on their 1Ds Mark III body, the lens looked relatively tiny. But, that certainly wasn’t the case when we locked in Canon’s new 400mm f/2.8 IS super telephoto monster. It was a final version of the lens, so we were able to grab some test shots. All of them were shot hand-held in bright sun at about 3 in the afternoon. The photos are completely unedited JPEGs out of the camera. We have put together some 100% crops in the gallery, or you can click the link below each to download the full version (each file is around 7 MB). Overall, we were incredibly impressed with the lens, especially when were were able to get mostly blur-free photos without as much as a monopod. It’s also not that big and heavy, especially when you compare it to older versions of the same lens.
