Canon announces two new RF mount lens, the 85mm f/1.2 and the 70-200mm f/2.8

Canon has announced two new RF lenses for its full-frame mirrorless camera system: the RF 85 F1.2L DS and the RF 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM telephoto lens. These are the ninth and tenth lenses to join the RF lens family and will be good options for sports shooters, event photographer, wildlife, and portraits. At 5.75 inches, the RF 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM one of the world’s shortest telephoto lenses in this range. Here is what else we know about these new pieces of glass.
RF 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM:
- 17 elements in 3 groups, including two glass-molded aspherical elements, one super UD and four UD lenses to reduce chromatic aberrations
- 9 circular aperture blades for pleasing bokeh
- 5 stops of image stabilization
- Customizable control ring
- Independent Nano USM focus drive system with floating focus control
- Minimum focusing distance of 2.3 feet
- Dust and weather resistant build with a fluorine coating to prevent smudges
- 5.75 inches long
- Weighs approximately 2.64 lbs
- Available late November for $2,699
RF 85 F1.2L DS:
- 13 elements in 9 groups, including one BR Optical element, one UD, and one ground aspherical lens
- 9 circular aperture blades for pleasing bokeh
- Fluorine coating, ASC, and a new DS coating, that gradually decreases the transmittance of light from photos with beautifully blurred backgrounds
- Minimum focusing distance of 2.79 feet
- Dust and weather resistant built with fluorine coating to prevent smudges
- Customizable control ring
- 4.62 inches long
- Weighs approximately 2.63 lbs
- Available late December for $2,999
Both of these lenses will be available to touch and try this weekend at the Canon booth at Photo Plus in New York City.
In addition to these two lenses Canon also announced two new accessories aimed at vloggers and video creators. There is a new Stereo Microphone DM-E100 that is powered by the microphone jack of the EOS 90D and a new Tripod Grip HG-100TBR that includes a wireless remote. The tripod grip will be available in November and the microphone will be available in December. Both accessories will retail for $129.
