Printer and camera company Canon wanted to make a big splash at CES 2016 by announcing an all new service for printing Instagram photos called “UBUPrints.”To promote the idea, Canon hooked us up with aerial photographer Natalie Amrossi (@misshattan) for a helicopter tour of Las Vegas, the site of CES. Canon hopes to encourage other social media stars to use the service to put their best work on physical display, in their homes or in galleries worldwide.

An inter-species chest bump, ill-timed golden showers, and more comedic bounty from nature.

Sure, humans can crack a good joke—but when it comes to situational irony, animals have us beat. The wacky things they do outside our purview look even wackier when snapped out of context. Such is the foundation for the The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, founded by two Tanzania-based conservationists.

The annual contest aims to save wildlife through humor, and sometimes, a little too much exposure. This year’s winners included the usual suspects: penguins, squirrels, and mammals that infringe on others’ personal space. But there’s also a boatload of surprises, including the most out chilled-out chimpanzee and a barely-there denizen of the forest. With birds, megafauna, and plants all covered (Team Fish, where you at?), the winners share a wide—and wild—sample of animal behaviors that might even make David Attenborough raise an eyebrow. We’ll let the creature comedians take it from here.

If this past year has proven anything, it’s that animals are the best free internet therapy there is. From virtual zoo tours to TikTok challenges, animals have been an invaluable source of entertainment—and relief—during the pandemic.

On that note, we wanted to share our favorites from the 2020 finalists of the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, which will be announcing its winners in mid-October. The contest has been shaking up the all-too-serious field of nature photography since 2015, but this year it feels even more necessary.

Now, without further delay, some serial killer fish, hungover penguins, and profane, pissed-off sea turtles for your “educational” benefit.
