There’s really now way around it: the Leica D-LUX series are just rebranded Panasonic LX cameras. There’s some argument for slightly different image processing, or minor changes in lens coating, but for all intents and purposes, they’re identical. For the addition of that red Leica dot, the $360 Panasonic LX7 becomes the $800 Leica D-LUX 6. But what happens when you add a high-end fashion brand to the mix?
G-Star Raw is a well known fashion house with an emphasis on denim, and it has joined forces with Leica for the Leica D-LUX 6 ‘EDITION BY G-STAR RAW’. The folks at G-Star have added some texturing to the front of the camera, a leather strap, and a very handsome case. So what do these extra details cost you? This limited edition collaboration will go for $1325 according to reports. That’s right, an almost $1000 premium on the camera’s standard version.
As ludicrous as that is, it hasn’t stopped fashion sites from going gaga over the collaboration, which is admittedly pretty fantastic looking. Still, for $1000 I bet you could get someone to custom modify your LX7 to make it look even better than that…
